The Hefty® EnergyBag™ program has proven that hard-to-recycle plastics can be collected curbside and converted into valuable energy resources. This groundbreaking concept can be leveraged by communities, municipalities, local materials recovery facilities, nonprofits, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and even brand owner facilities to expand the initiative on a national level. Building on the success of the 2017 Keep America Beautiful grant, Dow is funding additional grants in 2018 totaling $100,000.
The 2018 Hefty® EnergyBag™ grant application period is now closed.
How Applications Are Evaluated
The grant program typically receives a large number of applications and, as a result, is very competitive. All applications are rated based on the criteria outlined below. Top candidates will be contacted for further discussions and possible site visits.
- Well-organized proposal: Application responses that directly address questions in a concise manner, while providing relevant details regarding the scope, budget and schedule that are necessary to evaluate the application
- Planning and organization: A well thought out implementation strategy to ensure program success
- Tracking performance metrics: Detailed tracking and reporting plans referring to the number and weight of Hefty® EnergyBag™ orange bags collected over time
In addition to these criteria, preference was given to applications submitted along with a Letter of Collaboration, which included information about key local stakeholders and sponsors who can help implement and fund a local Hefty® EnergyBag™ program.
