Volunteer Spotlight: San Diego Girl Scout Troop #1165

San Diego Girl Scout Troop #1165

This Keep America Beautiful Volunteer Spotlight highlights an amazing group of young ladies -- San Diego Girl Scout Troop #1165, which volunteers for I Love A Clean San Diego!

As Daisies in 2013, the troop started its quest to “Make the World A Better Place” by getting involved in various volunteer opportunities in San Diego, like beach cleanups through ILACSD's Adopt-A-Beach program.

Through its first cleanup at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, the girls learned about the harmful effects of trash on our ecosystems by diligently tracking the items they found. The troop has been active in the program since early 2015 and adopted Moonlight Beach as its site. Recently, the troop’s group name was placed on the sign at Moonlight Beach, a small token of appreciation for its hard work!

The girls are active around the San Diego community in projects such as establishing Native Sage Scrub Habitat at Anstine-Audubon Nature Preserve and cleanups with other organizations, including their work on the Canyon Cleanup project with Discoverers at Manzanita Canyon. They are looking forward to participating for the first time at the 15th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on April 22, 2017, where they'll combine their community service outreach project with the celebration of 100 years of Girl Scouts in San Diego. ILACSD is so thankful to have such an enthusiastic group involved in its organization and programs!

Girl Scout Troop #1165 truly embodies its mission to make the world a better place, starting in San Diego.
