When can I request a grant?
Proposals can be submitted during a single, month long application period each year. The application period is over for 2018.

When will we be notified if we've received a grant?
All organizations that submitted 2018 applications will be notified by email in mid-March whether or not they have received a grant. Those communities receiving grants will complete a grant agreement as a condition of finalizing the grant. 

When would we receive the recycling bins?
The exact timing will be determined by our supplier’s production schedule. In most cases, however, we anticipate bins will be delivered in late April or early May 2018.

Why does the grant award bins instead of money?
By providing bins instead of money, this program meets several underlying goals. By choosing specific recycling bins and internally arranging for their distribution, Keep America Beautiful and Dr Pepper Snapple Group are able to leverage their purchasing power to provide more recycling bins than would be possible if selected grant recipients were to use monetary awards to purchase independently. By taking care of the bin purchases, the program allows grantees to better spend their time designing and implementing their park recycling programs.

How many bins may we request?
There is no fixed number of bins that can be requested. The typical award is generally between 15 and 60 bins, depending on the style of bin and the need.  Applicants should provide the total number of bins needed and indicate on the form whether they are willing to accept a smaller award. You may request one type of bin only. The actual number of bins awarded will be based on availability and need as determined in consultation with the recipients.  Recipients will have the opportunity to purchase additional bins beyond the number awarded at a discounted price.

Are there any costs to our organization?
The grant program will cover all costs to have the bins produced and shipped to your location at no cost. Where noted, certain bin styles may include optional accessories not included with the grant that can be purchased separately. The grant recipient is responsible for any installation costs, as well as for all ongoing collection and maintenance costs.

Can we purchase bins?
Yes. All applicants, whether they receive a grant or not, will be provided an opportunity to purchase the same style of recycling and matching trash bins at a specially-arranged discount price. Details about this offer will be shared with applicants when they are notified if a grant has been awarded.

Does submitting an application automatically guarantee we will receive bins?
No. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis.

May I request more than one type of bin?
No. Grant awards are restricted to one type of bin per application. Applicants will be asked to indicate a first and second choice of bins. In some cases if there are not enough bins of a certain style, a grant may be awarded with an offer for the applicant's second choice.

Can we get bins for trash or paper and other types of recyclables?
The grant specifically targets beverage container recycling and does not provide bins for trash or other non-container recyclables. For certain bin styles, grant applicants will have the opportunity to purchase matching bins for trash or other materials directly from the manufacturer with limited-offer discount pricing.

Will grant winners be required to report results?
Yes. Reports will be required on three occasions, 6 month, one year and two years after receiving the grant.  Grant recipients will complete an on-line report detailing among other things:

  • Quantity of materials collected (estimates are acceptable)
  • How bins are being used
  • List of locations where the bins were placed
  • Lessons learned, such as how the bins have held up, what was successful, what is not, etc…
  • Media recognition of the grant award

A complete list of tracking and reporting expectations will be provided to grant recipients.
