TOOLS FOR TEACHERS

Education is the starting point for changing attitudes and behaviors.

Keep America Beautiful's resources provide activities and tools designed to help educators inspire youth to help build and sustain vibrant communities by helping them understand concepts related to litter prevention, beautification and community greening, and recycling and waste management.

All programs are designed to be locally adaptable to meet the needs of individual communities.

In 2011-2012, more than 2.5 million students of all ages were touched by either a KAB formal classroom or informal educational presentation. KAB with support from the Wrigley Company Foundation has completed a two-year process to completely transform Waste in Place. The resource guide includes over 100 activities and enrichments for pre-K to sixth grade students. The new materials were field-tested in 2011 by over 300 educators providing invaluable research and information for KAB to improve and enhance our educational tools. The new materials include "Big Ideas for Growing Minds," a resource to help parents of early childhood students. Materials to help reinforce the and promote the proper handling of waste include children's books, board game, card games and story cards.

These tools build environmental knowledge, and foster stewardship, pride and individual responsibility among young people.

Watch the KAB website for new and exciting announcements related to youth education. Visit www.scholastic.com/kab to view The Jalapeno Seed children's book and review activity sheets designed to accompany the book.
