Keep America Beautiful Affiliates Benefit From UPS Scholarship Program
The UPS Foundation Provides Scholarships for Grassroots Community Leaders
STAMFORD, Conn. (Jan. 18, 2012) — The UPS Foundation and national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful (KAB) announced the UPS Scholarship Program, which was established to encourage and strengthen individual leadership of KAB affiliates through professional development opportunities.
The inaugural UPS Scholarship Program provided a $1,500 scholarship to each of six KAB affiliate organizations to support attendance at KAB’s 58th annual National Conference in New Orleans. The grant awards were presented in recognition of local volunteer initiatives with UPS locations throughout the United States. UPS employee volunteers actively support many of these merit-based award programs in their respective communities. Scholarships were awarded based on the applicant’s ability to share and implement conference learnings in their local community or the financial need of an applicant’s new and growing KAB affiliate.
The following communities received the inaugural UPS Scholarship Program awards:
“Keep America Beautiful greatly values its partnership with The UPS Foundation because its support of volunteerism and sustainable community improvement is a bond we share,” said Matt McKenna, president and CEO, Keep America Beautiful. “The UPS Scholarship Program will help further the growth and development of our affiliate directors, allowing them to put what they learn into practice in their respective communities.”
“UPS and our employees believe that the best way to better your community is by taking action and getting involved,” said The UPS Foundation President Ken Sternad. “We salute the volunteer commitment of these KAB affiliates to preserve and improve communities across the nation.”
